Linda Yang week 15

Unemployment is currently extremely high. Knowing this fact makes me want to hold on to my present job even more. Not everyone likes what they do for a living, but a lot of people settle for a job just to have some sort of income. I personally have an friend who has their bachelors degree in business, yet can not find a stable job. It seems to be that unemployment is quite common all around in every field. As of right now I am employed full time and am very fortunate. The internet had a great impact in my employment, and was actually where I found the job posting. All in all these past three assignment had made me appreciate my job that much more. Seeing how many people are unemployed today makes you really think twice about how complaining about your job.

Linda Yang week 13

I did not really have a hard time with this project. The only thing I wish I had done differently was added some transitions to the slide show. I had little time to do this project because I am working full time currently and going to school full time. Doing both have been a hassle for me, and yet I just recently bought a dog. I learned that presentations would be great for my professional career. Even just recording it online made me a little nervous. I know that I will have to eventually have to get over that fear but for now, practice makes perfect!

I thought my presentation went well. I created my power point fairly easily. The only issue I had was trying to format my slides. I would of liked to add some pictures but I could not get the pictures to format the way I wanted it to. If I had to do this again I would of spent more time trying to format my presentation so that it provided a little more style. I was trying to get more visuals to emphasize some of my talking points but I could not get the formatting to work the way I wanted it to. I thought that I found a lot of information on my topic, which made it easier to create my slides. I think that because I was able to find so much useful information I was able to pick and use what I thought was most relevant. I think what really helped was the fact that I had a topic that I had a real interest in. In presentations that I have done in the past I have had a hard time researching topics that I do not find interesting. I think that the more power points I make the better it will be for my professional career. I hope to be in a position that I have to do some presentations at some point in my career. This practice definitely helps with that and it gets me used to some of the features of power point. I think that the majority of meetings and training sessions I have been to in my current job have used power point to provide a visual aid. This type of knowledge just helps add to my professional skills portfolio.

Linda Yang Week 11

Everything that I have learned in the class I know I could apply to the real world. I am actually using the material I am learning right now and applying to every day at work. Since I have moved up in my job it really helps me with my position. From understanding business communication to writing business messages to completing them has really helped me with my new management position. With the material I learned, I applied at my workplace, this goes with the electronic media. I helped the company I work at actually make a blog for their company. Everything I have learned as been very useful.

Dakota Trammell Reflection Blog

I think that I have learned a lot during this course. I was surprised about how I was currently using techniques we have discussed. I knew that non verbal cues were important when communicating, but I had never really analyzed my on communication skills. I will now find myself thinking about non verbal cues that I am sending when I am at work. I try to focus on what cues I am sending while communicating with different people at work. Before I took this class I never even considered what non verbal signs I was sending or how they would shape my message. I have also found that it is interesting what role social media is playing in the business world now. The way people do business is changing and it is very interesting to see the roles that Facebook, twitter, blogs, and other social media tools. I do not personally use most of the social networks, but it is interesting studying how companies are evolving their brand to reach a generation of people who are becoming more and more reliant on social networking. Although I find it interesting how businesses are using social media, I do not think it was very helpful for me to actually join twitter. All that I have got out of my twitter account is a few extra junk emails a week reminding me that I have a twitter account. I have a Facebook account but I am not active on it, and I have no plans to use my twitter account. Its a minor complaint as I think that the course has been very informative for the most part. I think that what has really reinforced the lessons has been how I can see situations where they can be used in an everyday basis.

Linda Yang Assignment 7.4

First of all I never really enjoyed blogging or tweeting. I still do not really enjoy doing it but I do know it is a good thing to know how to do it. The only site I really enjoy using is Facebook and even with that I barely use it. I know in today society everything is going world wide and technology is always booming. The past two weeks I learned a lot, I learned to tweet as well as create a blog. I know it is not difficult to do but I just never really made one. My opinion on social media is that it is good for advertising and useful for companies, but I personally myself would not be putting out everything I do on a regular basis on full blast for the world to see.For some reason I don't find a point of having the whole world know that you are eating or now that you are having coffee, but that is just my personal preference. After these two weeks my view on social media did not change and I don't believe it will ever change. I do know that everyone these days tweet and have blogs about their personal life, I just don't think I could ever sit at a computer longer than I have to and write about myself.

Dakota Trammell Assignment 7.4

Over the last few weeks going through the different modules I have learned the importance of using social media outlets. I have personal experience with this through my work with the use of blogs, wiki's, email, and etc., but I had never really considered it anything out of the ordinary. When reading the chapters and doing the homework, especially the assignment on my current employment. I realized that my company is trying to utilize the new business tools such as social media, blogs, wiki's, and etc. to try and expand their business. I think that going forward more businesses will take this approach because it is much more convenient and cost effective than older pen and paper approaches. I did not really consider Twitter in the same category as Facebook or some of the other social media tools. I had never used Twitter and anytime I heard anything about Twitter it was somebody famous either getting their account hacked or posting something they later regretted. After signing up and looking at what all can be posted I realized that it can be a usefull business tool. It gives followers the opportunity to get quick relevant updates including links for more details on certain post. I think that if used correctly this will appeal to a younger generation that is very interested in staying connected at all times. I do not think that I personally will be more active with the social media sites that we have gone over. I am not against the sites, but I just do not find it very interesting to read every detail of casual acquaintances lives. My personal view aside, from a business aspect I do think that it can be very useful. I will continue to use our social media tools that we have available to us at my current job and in my future employment.

Dakota Trammell Corporate Blog

The Blog that I choose to review was the blog by Randy Tinseth vice president, marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Seattle. His blog ranges from reviewing of company information to quick updates on what is going that day. One of the things that I think makes Randy’s blog really good is that he is very active. He has multiple posts in the last week, including a blog post today. His activity in the blog keeps the information fresh and keeps the reader interested. Two of his most recent post shows the diversity of his post as well. He posted a picture and a short text showing two of the new 787 dreamlifter planes in Wichita. They only have four of these planes so to see two of them at the same place were rare and he showed the picture on his blog. It was not a real long blog just a quick update. His second blog was a review of the events of the last year and what he feels makes the company special. This blog post was more in depth and provided a quick look at the year they just completed. I think it is important that a blogger for a corporation has a good mix of content and not just long drawn out blogs reviewing company information. I think Randy shows how to keep it interesting while also informative. Here is the link for his blog http://boeingblogs.com/randy/.

Dakota Trammell Current Employment

I am currently working for Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores. I have been working for them for the last six and half years. In the past two years they have begun to go through a major change as far as technology is concerned. When I first started with Lowe’s everything ran off of an outdated MSDOS style program. There was no access to the internet and we had very little resources to assist in our everyday jobs. Then they started investing in the technology infrastructure of the company in an effort to prepare them for the new customers that we are seeing. They upgraded the equipment, they added Google search to our computers, they invested in programs that made making estimates quicker and easier, and they began to use social media to promote the company. They now have dedicated team members that post on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media tools, including blogs. This has helped them reach an entire new audience and helped connect to a younger generation that will ultimately be the reason they continue to be one of the top companies in the country in the decades to come. In addition, they have also created an internal website that has blogs, wiki’s, and discussion boards that allows associates at all levels from across the country to connect with each other. This allows a cashier to post directly to CEO if they have questions or concerns, and the CEO usually will take the time to respond to most comments. This has helped keep employees in the loop on the new technology, sales promotions, special events, and other information that sometimes did not make it down the ladder with the old trickle down effect. The other advantage is that if one associate has a question they can post to a blog or wiki and other associates that may have experience in that area can post an answer. This has been helpful in becoming a more efficient company because it makes the people that have knowledge accessible to each other. Overall Lowe’s has made a concerted effort to use blogs and other social media tools to bring the company forward and attract a new generation of customers.

Current Employment Situation

I am currently employed at a growing telemarketing company. I have worked with this company for almost a year now and I have seen them grow as time has gone by. This company is actually the reason why I switched my major into the business field because it made me realize how much more I enjoy working in business. This company, Sunrise Media Partners, is still growing rapidly and will continue to grow. Many people come in go in this job industry but that is just how the business field is. The strong will succeed, as the weak will fade. You have to have a great mind set to sit on the phones and continue to be aggressive with the prospect students on the phone. With technology and how it’s growing so rapidly as well, I believe blogging would really benefit this company. Many advertisers depend on the Internet to adversities their companies' products.  I believe that blogging would really help boost their sales as well as boot their employee numbers. Everything from buying toothpaste to choosing what school you want to attend is all plastered online with advertisements. If a company does not continue to expand their horizons with their technology levels as society does, then their companies would start to fall just like many companies started to. All in all, I believe blogging is a very effective way to boost the company up, as well as their sales.

Corporate Blogging

The corporate blog I chose to do my review on was Facebook blogging.
https://blog.facebook.com/
With this blog you could connect with your friends instantly, and they would be able to read your blogs. I believe that this a great place to blog because it is simple as well as already connected to your Facebook friends and family. Many younger people also use Facebook blogging to express how they feel or just how their days went. This specific blog site is very therapeutic because you not only could express yourself, but you could get direct feed back from your friends and family. The whole point you want to write is to have someone care and read, right? Out  of the blog sites I think this ones the most therapeutic as well as fun. Many of the blogs on this site is very interesting to read. These blogs are not only fun to read but there are many of them are very educational. Some of these blogs include the music industry, Facebook updates, and even about world news. These blogs on this site vary unlike some sites where they are based on the same subject. Out of all the blog sites out there I believe I would recommend Facebook blogging.
