Linda Yang week 13

I did not really have a hard time with this project. The only thing I wish I had done differently was added some transitions to the slide show. I had little time to do this project because I am working full time currently and going to school full time. Doing both have been a hassle for me, and yet I just recently bought a dog. I learned that presentations would be great for my professional career. Even just recording it online made me a little nervous. I know that I will have to eventually have to get over that fear but for now, practice makes perfect!

I thought my presentation went well. I created my power point fairly easily. The only issue I had was trying to format my slides. I would of liked to add some pictures but I could not get the pictures to format the way I wanted it to. If I had to do this again I would of spent more time trying to format my presentation so that it provided a little more style. I was trying to get more visuals to emphasize some of my talking points but I could not get the formatting to work the way I wanted it to. I thought that I found a lot of information on my topic, which made it easier to create my slides. I think that because I was able to find so much useful information I was able to pick and use what I thought was most relevant. I think what really helped was the fact that I had a topic that I had a real interest in. In presentations that I have done in the past I have had a hard time researching topics that I do not find interesting. I think that the more power points I make the better it will be for my professional career. I hope to be in a position that I have to do some presentations at some point in my career. This practice definitely helps with that and it gets me used to some of the features of power point. I think that the majority of meetings and training sessions I have been to in my current job have used power point to provide a visual aid. This type of knowledge just helps add to my professional skills portfolio.

Linda Yang Week 11

Everything that I have learned in the class I know I could apply to the real world. I am actually using the material I am learning right now and applying to every day at work. Since I have moved up in my job it really helps me with my position. From understanding business communication to writing business messages to completing them has really helped me with my new management position. With the material I learned, I applied at my workplace, this goes with the electronic media. I helped the company I work at actually make a blog for their company. Everything I have learned as been very useful.

I think that I have learned a lot during this course. I was surprised about how I was currently using techniques we have discussed. I knew that non verbal cues were important when communicating, but I had never really analyzed my on communication skills. I will now find myself thinking about non verbal cues that I am sending when I am at work. I try to focus on what cues I am sending while communicating with different people at work. Before I took this class I never even considered what non verbal signs I was sending or how they would shape my message. I have also found that it is interesting what role social media is playing in the business world now. The way people do business is changing and it is very interesting to see the roles that Facebook, twitter, blogs, and other social media tools. I do not personally use most of the social networks, but it is interesting studying how companies are evolving their brand to reach a generation of people who are becoming more and more reliant on social networking. Although I find it interesting how businesses are using social media, I do not think it was very helpful for me to actually join twitter. All that I have got out of my twitter account is a few extra junk emails a week reminding me that I have a twitter account. I have a Facebook account but I am not active on it, and I have no plans to use my twitter account. Its a minor complaint as I think that the course has been very informative for the most part. I think that what has really reinforced the lessons has been how I can see situations where they can be used in an everyday basis.
